Breast Feeding Cystic Fibrosis

The Power of Pumping The Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia

Gtgt I WASN'T INITIALLY GOING TO BREASTFEED. BECAUSE I KNOW IT'S NATURAL, BUT I WAS KIND OF, WEIRDED ME OUT A LITTLE BIT. gtgt BEFORE CHARLOTTE WAS BORN, I HAD THOUGHT ABOUT BREASTFEEDING AND WAS EXCITED ABOUT DOING IT. AND THEN I FOUND OUT SHE WAS SICK AND I WONDERED WHAT THAT WOULD MEAN. gtgt WE KNEW THAT HE WOULD BE HOOKED UP TO A VENTILATOR AS SOON AS HE WAS BORN AND WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO NURSE. SO IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THAT GOAL WE STARTED OFF BY PUMPING.

Gtgt THAT WAS THE ONLY THING I COULD DO FOR HER, AND THAT WAS THE ANSWER FOR US. THAT WAS THE ONE THING THAT WOULD KEEP US CONNECTED EVEN THOUGH WE COULDN'T BE CONNECTED. gtgt PUMPING, EXPRESSING MILK FOR THE BABY, IS THE ONE THING THAT THE MOM HAS CONTROL OVER. EACH DAY THAT YOU PUMP, YOU ARE MAKING A NEW DAILY DOSE OF VACCINE FOR YOUR BABY. THAT'S POWERFUL. gtgt MATERNAL MILK IS THE SAFEST MILK TO PROVIDE TO A SICK BABY IN THE NICU. IT PREVENTS INFECTION. IT PREVENTS ILLNESSES THAT AFFECT THE INFANT'S INTESTINES.

Gtgt WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT THE SCIENCE AND REALLY UNDERSTAND THE SCIENCE OF HUMAN MILK VERSUS FORMULA, THAT'S WHEN YOU CAN REALLY UNDERSTAND FOR A NICU BABY WHY IT'S SO IMPORTANT. gtgt WHATEVER PROTEINS AND ANTIBODIES AND WHITE CELLS AND OTHER THINGS THAT EXIST IN MOTHERS' MILK PROTECT THE BABIES FROM GETTING INFECTIONS EARLY IN LIFE. BABIES WHO ARE FED BREAST MILK JUST DO BETTER. gtgt WELL, I DIDN'T REALLY EXPECT TO HAVE TO LEARN TO PUMP UNTIL I WENT BACK TO WORK OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. gtgt I WAS AFRAID IT MIGHT HURT.

I WAS AFRAID THAT IT WOULDN'T WORK. gtgt THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES THAT I DIDN'T GET ANYTHING I WAS PRETTY MUCH BEING I WAS SCARED. gtgt BEING IN THE NICU IS LIKE A ROLLER COASTER, AND IT'S REALLY SCARY. AS A MOTHER, ONLY YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO MAKE A MILK THAT IS ESPECIALLY TAILORED FOR YOUR BABY. gtgt IT IS NICE TO KNOW WHEN I LEAVE HERE THIS IS THE ONE THING THAT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE A MOM. EVEN IF HE'S NOT EATING RIGHT NOW I CAN STILL.

PROVIDE MILK FOR HIS FUTURE. gtgt I CAN'T FEED HER BECAUSE OF HER INTESTINAL ISSUES, SO PUMPING IS THE ONLY THING I CAN DO AS A MOTHER. gtgt WHEN I SAW THOSE BOTTLES LINED UP AND I KNEW THAT THEY WERE FOR CHARLOTTE, AND I KNEW THAT THEY WERE HELPING HER HEAL AND GET BETTER, IT BECAME REWARDING AND ALMOST INSTANTLY GRATIFYING. TODAY, I'M SO HAPPY TO SAY THAT CHARLOTTE IS AN ACTIVE AND BEAUTIFUL TODDLER. AND WHEN YOU MEET HER YOU WOULD NEVER, EVER KNOW THAT SHE WAS SICK. PROVIDING BREAST MILK FOR CHARLOTTE ABSOLUTELY PLAYED.

What You Need to Know About Breast Cancer Screening

Screening for breast cancer may be a doubleedged sword. I'm Shelby Cullinan with your latest health news A new study found that breast cancer screening detected more tumors that are small, slowgrowing or that will shrink spontaneously. However, the study also found no change in breast cancer deaths as a result these screenings. Tammi Boiko, AADE California Chapter President, on Capellas MSN Diabetes Nursing program

Gtgt Tammi Boiko I just thought that what Capella had put together met what we needed in the state of California. Music What Capella's done for the state of California, allowing us to put a cohort together as we're, again, trying to advance our degrees and advance the practice of diabetes nursing. It would behoove each state to really contact Capella and see what they can do to put a cohort together with their own state. It's really great to see how Capella makes you think outside of the box of what you think you already know but really don't. It just makes you become.

More of a well advanced nurse. Because I was a parent with children with diabetes so young, I understand the whole lifecycle of diabetes and raising children. It can be complicated. It can be so rewarding. And when you look at everybody that's effected by it, as a nurse, touched the lives of everybody around it, you have to look at that. It's just not blood sugars. It's just not about did are they compliant or noncompliant. It is a life devastating disease. And when you give them the tools to be successful, you've protected an entire.

Family. When the average age certified diabetes educator today is 58, we have to go back and figure out how to grow the diabetes educators. And what I've learned is that there's not enough Master prepared nurses to get back into the universities to try to get that bachelor's degree in nursing so that we can get those certified diabetes educators. With diabetes is an epidemic pandemic, and we have to be able to bring us to light and bring it to practice. And a lot of times we have to teach it to the general practitioners and the internist.

Myoma Uterine Fibroids What is Myoma, Causes, Symptoms and Treatment for Myoma

A fibroid is a benign tumor that mainly consists have muscular tissue and usually grows inside the uterus. Fibroids are also called myomas. Its size ranges widely, from a small tumor the size of a pea to a large tumor almost the size of the uterus. Myomas are classified into three types, depending on the location where they are found. The intramural myoma, a fibroid that grows in the muscular wall of the uterus. This subserosal myoma, a fibroid located just beneath the outside mucosal covering of the uterus. Here the fibroid projects to the.

Outside and occasionally remains connected with the uterus only through a small stalk. The submucosal myoma, a tumor that grows beneath the surface of the uterus lining. Therefore, this type of fibroids can grow into the uterine cavity. The actual causes have development of a fibroid are still unclear. However, it has been documented that fibroids are associated with high levels of estrogen, the female sex hormone. Fibroids can only developed during reproductive years of women. Following menopause, the production of estrogen decreases which will usually cause fibroids to shrink or disappear.

Myomas are more common in nonpregnant and infertile women. In general, fibroids are asymptomatic or associated with just a few complaints if any complaints. If any complaints occur, then the location, size and type of the fibroid are the major factors. Fibroids can affect nearby structures. They can cause compression of the bladder, which may lead to urinary complaints, or may obstruct the intestine, which may result in constipation. Other complaints can be backaches, abdominal problems, menstrual flow disturbances. Fibroids can impede normal childbirth, which may require caesarean delivery. Fibroids relatively more often lead to miscarriages.

Whenever fibroids cause symptoms, they need to be removed or shrinked. Medications sometimes cause fibroid to shrink by blocking the production and secretion of estrogen. In other cases, surgery may be required to remove the fibroid. The type of surgery depends on the location of the fibroid. Sometimes it's possible to remove the fibroid with the help of the tube entered through the vagina and the procedure is called hysteroscopic myomectomy. In other cases, surgery through the abdominal wall may be necessary. In the case of a large fibroid, hysterectomy may be the only solution.

Endometriosis, Uterine Fibroids, and Estrogen Dominance

Now, when we have a stage called estrogen dominance estrogen proliferates tissue when it's dominant. Estrogen within itself is very good. I helps us with our brain tissue, our memory. It helps us to think clearly, prevents foggy brain and all this other stuff. Estrogen in itself is very goodit's not bad. But when you have an estrogen dominance situation where the estrogen is very dominant over the progesterone, you're going to have all these symptoms and you're going to have a proliferation of tissue. For instance, if a woman comes in with cysts on her ovaries or cysts in her breasts.

Or she has fibroids on the inner uterine lining, or she has endometriosis these are all tissues that are being proliferated. They are increasing because she's got too much estrogen in her. Thus, we have a lot of increase in the amounts of hysterectomies because women are getting large fibroids and they're bleeding heavy, heavy, heavy, so they have anemia. I went through this myself, personally, in my forties. I had a lot of estrogen dominance but back then we didn't know exactly what to do. And so, I ended up having a hysterectomy because every time.
